Ygnacio del Valle
Rancho Camulos is a ranch and farm that the Mexican del Valle family owned and operated between 1839 and 1924. The Mexican government claimed land in the southwest previuously owned by Spain, including California. The government gave grants to people they feel showed their loyalty to Mexico. Antonio del Valle, who served in the Mexican army, petitioned for old mission land in California and received 48,612 acres. He became the legal owner of the land in 1839. Ygnacio del Valle inherited his fathers wealthy ranch when he died. Ygnacio moved into the ranch in 1861. This ranch is now a historic landmark. The ranch is lolcated in Piru, California. The construction of the ranch began in 1853 and later was expanded. Ygnacio and his second wife moved into the ranch with their 12 children. Ranch Camulos produced wine, almonds, grain, and other produce. This ranch supported nearly 200 Mexican and Native American labor workers.
Antonio del Valle was very wealthy unlike most of the Mexicans who migrated to California. Mexicans who came to California between 1900-1920 were very poor and had nothing. Ygnacio and his big family lived the American dream.("Rancho Camulos, Piru California")
